We all needed to get outside in the wide, open, beautiful spaces of Creation today.
We didn't realize how much we needed to do so until our toes were wriggling in the sand and the sound of waves were crashing all around us. The weather was gorgeous and we soaked up every ounce of sun and walked and played and read and worked until we had to force ourselves to return home.
It was a fanTAStic homeschooling day!
We do read-alouds every day (the Bible and poetry) and today, while fighting to be heard over the sound of the waves while reading, I was inspired by a scene from the film The Great Debaters.
We had a short lesson about enunciation and projection when speaking publicly, and then I had Josiah, Isaiah, and Ellie sit on the rocks closest to the breaking waves to read their poems.
At first, they saw absolutely no point or benefit in the exercise. Once they tried reading loud enough to be heard over the noise of the waves and squawking seagulls, however; they understood!
Nature really IS an excellent classroom!
