What I want. But I need to want it MORE.

As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
Psalm 42:1, 2

I want this.
The longing.
The desire.
The singular focus.

But it will not just happen.
I have to stir up the desire.
Increase the longing.
Fix my eyes in one place.
On the face of my God.

It is a worthy pursuit.
I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me diligently find Me. Proverbs 8:17

And when we find Him, we can share the enthusiasm of the Psalmist who declares,
You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11

This prayer echoes my heart. I am both encouraged and convicted that a man of such godly character cried out for the very thing my own heart desires. I will never love my God perfectly, but He knows I do love Him, and He will be patient with my human weaknesses and failings until I learn to love Him and want Him more.

O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still." - A. W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God

May we seek God more diligently today than we did yesterday.
