We are in chapter eleven of our book study on prayer. During my reading this morning, I found this gem tucked inside the pages.
I pray it will encourage anyone who is struggling with anxiety, worry, or fear, and most of all, that it will bring comfort knowing that the Lord is a rock and a refuge - a very PRESENT help in times of trouble. He never leaves us or forsakes us ... even on our darkest day.
An anxiety-filled heart keeps us from seeing anything clearly.
If we were calm, quiet, self-possessed, we should do the right thing.
That man may expect to have presence of mind who has the presence of God.
Think of that man of God who, on the morning he was to be burned, was so soundly asleep that they had to shake him to wake him. He had to get up to be burned, and yet knowing that it was to be so, he had such confidence in God that he slept sweetly.
This is the "peace of God that passes all understanding."
- C. H. Spurgeon, The Power of Prayer in a Believer's Life
Lord, use Your Word to encourage us and remind us to run to You, and You alone, when we are weary and heavy-laden. No one can give us the rest, the comfort, or the peace we crave. Nothing else will fill the gaps or heal the hurts. Only Your love, Your forgiveness, Your grace, and Your mercy will provide the peace that passes all human understanding; and make us lie down in green pastures beside still waters while Your rod and staff comfort us. Thank You, Lord, for Your promises, and for being a faithful God who fulfills each one.
When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. Psalm 56:3
Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never permit the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22-23
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34
Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
