I love your face, Caleb! Since you were a tiny little guy, I have always found joy when looking at you - your smile is gorgeous, and contagious.
Caleb, this morning I thanked the Lord for giving you nine years of life. Nine years of protection and health and physical growth, and - SALVATION! You have endured many simple trials in your short time on earth ... a few trips to the ER for stitches - falling off a 20 foot cliff and surviving with only severe road rash and minimal pain for a few days - a diagnosis of dyslexia and the visual issues that often accompany it - fighting through reading and writing, and finding SUCCESS! - being the little brother of the big boys and enduring all of the torture and drama that comes with that position - getting lost in the middle of five siblings and trying to find your place - and just the daily struggle of battling your own sin as you learn what it means to be a child of God.
And even with all of those things - you are almost always smiling! You truly have a heart that is relaxed and content. It takes something huge to get you upset and push you past your patience level, but even then, you are able to calm down fairly quickly and then jump right back into your world of imagination as you create and design and interact in that private world. (Secretly, I cannot WAIT to see how the Lord uses your imagination for His glory!)
I love you, Caleb. I love everything about you. Even when you let sin reign in your mortal body, you are easy to deal with, and you quickly repent - and then desire to do what is right. (I pray you will never, ever lose that tenderness to the Lord, Caleb.) You are funny, dramatic, pensive, exact, intelligent, a thinker, super gentle with little ones, crazy, adventurous, confident, affectionate, and loyal. Caleb, you are WONDERFUL.
Happy 9th birthday, my third-born son! You bring delight to my days, and I simply cannot imagine life without you! I love you, Caleb. ~ Mom
